Sweets and Treats Valentine's Party

Since becoming a mom, Valentine's Day has switched from less date nights to more kid play dates. A fun way for the kids to celebrate, is by hosting a Sweets and Treats party. My daughter invited a few friends from school and we planned an afternoon of fun activities, decorating rice krispies and lots of sweets and treats!

The table was decorated with supplies for embellishing the krispie treats. A variety of sprinkles were set out in a heart shaped baking tin. There was plenty of candy, frosting and rice krispie hearts for the girls to enjoy. This was a great project to keep them entertained, they all loved it!

At each place setting, the girls were given their own towel and frosting knife. I pre-cut the rice krispies into a heart shape, so they were easy for the girls to grab and decorate, they looked cute and fit the theme!

Along with the towel and knife they each had a bingo card. This was our first activity to get the party started. We used conversation hearts as the marker and called each picture square out one by one. The girls loved playing and were so anxious to see who would yell out "bingo"first. I would recommend if you plan a "frosting" party to do activities like this one prior to getting the table all messy with frosting and sprinkles. Makes clean up much easier!

After bingo the girls had lunch. I kept the menu simple with pb&j crustables, applesauce packs, apple juice and goldfish crackers. I figured since I would be filling them of sugar, the least I could do was feed them something more.

The crustables were put in cute paper bags and tied with twine. Who wouldn't want to eat a sandwich that looked this cute?

I wanted to make this party simple and fun. The goldfish, applesauce and apple juice were all individual packs, easy for the kids to grab. It saved me a lot of time with setup not having to prep a lot of food. This is probably my number one tip that I have learned, pick one thing to go all out on. Whether it be the food, dessert or activities, don't try to make everything yourself or do a bunch of elaborate things. You will only stress yourself out or be spread too thin on party day. For this party I chose to put more details into the activities and kept the food and dessert simple and easy.

After lunch the decorating began, the candy and treats were fair game! There were sprinkles and frosting everywhere, and they all enjoyed it so much! I don't think there was one krispie treat that had a lacking of sprinkles and I am pretty sure a fair number of them also decorated the floor. The giggles and silliness were all around!

In keeping with the theme of making things easier, I bought mini cakes and sugar cookies from the grocery store. For so many of my past parties I have slaved over making the desserts from scratch. This time, it was all about fun, easy prep and making it a good time for everyone. Sometimes you have to do what is easiest, and these treats were still really delicious!

After all the decorating, eating, bingo and more eating it was craft time for the girls. This was a nice activity to wind down a little. I found several Valentine inspired prints online and printed out a few copies of each, for all the girls to color. I also included an activity sheet with a word search, tic-tac-toe, etc...

As a little thank you for coming, I ordered these sweet candy wands from Handcrafted Parties and each guest was able to take one home, along with the goodies they decorated. I just love how they turned out, they are so cute!

Princess Winter Wonderland

I can hardly believe it has taken my daughter 6 birthdays to finally ask for a Princess party. My daughter really loves to help plan any event I am working on and it made it all the more fun that this time the celebration was for her. We thought about doing Disney princesses, but narrowing it down seemed impossible. Her favorite color is pink, so that was a must and lots of glitter!

We started with a color palette of pink and gold. With her birthday in November, Christmas decorations are hitting the store shelves in full force. The plan of this party took off when I walked into Michaels one day and saw their beautiful collection of pink glittery holiday decorations. It was perfect, a Princess Winter Wonderland was born! Glittery trees in pinks, blues and silvers, royal crowns and glittery snow dusted branches brought the theme to life. Once I had my theme it was easy to find the perfect invitation to match.

I love when you have a party or event you are styling and you happen to come across the most perfect decorations that will fit your theme. An amazing find was a princess party collection I found at Home Goods. This gorgeous watercolor banner, and matching straws with honeycomb tissue princess toppers, featured different Disney princesses. The collection was in the same color palette of pinks and blues. I had to have them!

I found this cute "fairy tales" print at Hobby Lobby and added the ribbon, then hung from the backdrop. Keeping things simple for the party setup, I added the banner and the backdrop was complete. With this gorgeous chippy wood, no reason to over do it!

For dessert I made a strawberry double layer cake with buttercream icing. It was delicious and devoured in no time! For the cake topper, I found a wooden princess castle cutout and stuck it on the top, then added the gold glitter 6, easy and turned out really beautiful.

The kids could choose from other goodies, such as heart shaped rice krispies dipped in chocolate, delicious sugar cookies or pink marshmallow sno-balls. Because the party was held in the late afternoon I served light snacks of popcorn, pretzels and fruit with a simple strawberry lemonade punch.

Each guest received a fun goody box to keep the princess fun going even after the party.

After all the girls each got their goody box, they loaded up with pearls, crowns, wands and ring pops. Then they had a royal parade around the house. It was so cute (unfortunately those pictures didn't quite turn out) but it was so simple. They lined up and I showed them the royal wave and then the birthday girl lead the royal processional.

I can hardly believe this little girl of mine is already 6, I am not sure where the time is going but wish it would slow do a little! Although I miss her baby cheeks and how little she once was, I am enjoying this new stage. She has such a sweetness and kind heart, I truly relish in those rare snugly moments and times when she looks in my eyes and I get a quick glimpse of that sweet baby I brought home from the hospital. She is truly my mini me in almost every way imaginable, which is hilarious, sweet and quite frightening. Feeling pretty blessed to call this girl mine!
