Canvas Crafting

So it seems I have a few obsessions lately, Pinterest, Polyvore, party planning, among many others I can now add fabrics to the list. I have no idea how to sew anything, for example if my husband needs his pants mended it takes like a year, if I need something hemmed or sewn for a project I run to dear old mommy. The only thing I can manage to do is sew a button back on a shirt. So I have never really had any reason to be into fabrics, much until now! So my new obsession started all because I wanted some art work for our bedroom. I got this great idea to buy canvas and paint, well apparently I forgot one minor detail that I could not paint. Well I guess I could if I just wanted splatter marks or smears! Anywho, I thought why not wrap them in fabric! Now I know this isn't a new concept but I was pretty excited that I for once had actually remembered a terrific craft idea that I found online. So off to the fabric store I went. I found some beautiful fabrics and had such a hard time picking but finally chose three that I thought would look great in our room. Since I was taking too long in the process Miss K was getting very impatient with me so we picked out a fabric for her room too. I purchased half a yard of each and wrapped each canvas with the fabric, stapled all around the back edges and walla! Instant art!
Sorry I didn't take any pictures of the process but here are the afters.

 Katelyn's Room Piece

I also took some of the remnant pieces and made rosettes and flowers. I used a glue gun to keep the rosette and flowers together as well as adhering them to the canvas.
I have a "K" block letter for decoration, so I laid that out onto paper, traced it and once I cut it out I had my very own stencil. I used the stencil to sponge the paint onto the fabrics. Not only could I use it in Katelyn's room, but in our room as well to represent our last name.

These three prints are for our room bedroom. I plan to hang all three above our bed with the "K" initial piece in the middle. My next fabric craft is curtains for our master bathroom, of course that requires a trip to mom's so I will post that when they are complete! I must really learn this sewing thing!

Enjoy this last day to the weekend, hoping the sun comes out to play. I have a busy day, lunch with the family and then to one of my dearest friends for her daughters first birthday party.

Birthday Banner

There are so many amazingly crafty people out there, I just love seeing the imagination of other people and finding new things to create. Since my daughter's first birthday is coming up in a few months I have been scouring online to find ideas on birthday decorations. I have come across birthday banners that are just so adorable that I thought I would try to make one myself.

I used my Cricut to cut the shapes out of the scrapbook paper, then I used ribbon to connect them all. This was my first testing piece and I think it turned out pretty well, I won't be using this one so maybe I will sell it on Etsy for a few dollars, who knows.

I had a lot of fun creating it and now I can't wait to make one for Katelyn's birthday!

Going on Eight...

Katelyn is almost 8 months old, I can hardly believe it. She is getting more and more personality each day and is constantly making us laugh. She loves to sit and play with her toys, but has yet to show any interest in crawling. I figure it will happen one day, all kids learn how to do it eventually so I am not going to force it. She is experimenting with noises and makes lots of baas, clicks and smacks. She is drooling like crazy so I am just anticipating a tooth to pop up any day. She is a well mannered, happy baby. She is eating different kinds of baby foods and really enjoying them, matter of fact the girl just loves to eat! Katelyn is already obsessed with the phone and tries to grab it out of your hand when you are using it, should I be worried, yes I think so! Our little girl is growing up so fast right before our eyes. Right now I am just cherishing every snuggle I can because I know soon she will be mobile and the snuggles won't happen as often.

Tea Time

Twice a year one of my mom's very good friends puts on an English Tea. This year was the first time I was able to attend and it just so happens it was Katelyn's very first Tea.
She looked so pretty in her dress and she was so well behaved I couldn't have asked for better.

The spread was quite amazing, lots of finger foods, treats and my all time favorite, scones! The host had just returned from a trip to England and brought back some traditional tea goodies, cream butter spread and delicious tea. I, of course, over ate and still hadn't gotten to try everything I wanted.  The afternoon was great, we ate, socialized and drank tea, what could be better? We don't  get to very often , but my mom and I really enjoy tea time.  Since our background mainly English and Canadian, it's fun to embrace our roots.

A better late than never July 4th...

It seems like July has been whirling by at a rapid pace! I am so far behind in posting, it seems like it has been forever. I wanted to post about our 4th of July weekend, it was one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. I had 4 days off of work and Steve had the weekend off as well, so we had some quality family time. We spent Saturday taking Katelyn to her first trip to the ocean, the weather was beautiful. We flew a kite, some of us better than others (lets just say the kite and I were not friends), Lucy ran and played in the water and Katelyn laughed with excitement each time she saw the waves. We all had a great time and were exhausted by the end of the day.

The 4th of July was mellow for us this year, we stayed home and relaxed in the sun. We don't always get a sunny 4th here in the Pacific NW, so we took advantage and soaked up some rays! We BBQ lots of food, played outside and ended the day by watching the city fireworks from our hilltop.
It was a perfect day, followed by a perfect evening.

Daddy's American Sweetheart

I know this was delayed, but better late than never! As I have read over every ones blogs it looks as though ya'll had a great 4th of July weekend as well. Now if only that sun would come back!
